Between Cape Coast and Elmina is a small fishing community. The income is coming from smoking fish and selling this inland. Most of the people living in this community are originally from the Volta region. In this community there was no school for young children. Abbey, 1 of the members of this community had done some thatch roofing work at Ko-Sa Beach Resort. He explained about his plans for a small school in his community. We went to his community to have a look.
We saw the need for a school in his community. With help of many guests money was raised to build 2 class rooms and toilets. Currently we are working on 3 more class rooms. With the money we bought wood, paint, cement, sand, stones and learning materials. Also we were lucky that many guests did take learning materials with them for the school. Of course it is an ongoing project. The building and toilets need maintenance and the funds are almost finished. The children are paying 5 cedi per month for school fees and 20 pesewas for a meal a day.
This money is not enough to pay the teachers. If you are interested to help this school financial or with materials, please contact us.
